Join Us in Making a Difference! Volunteer with the Michigan Deaf Association
At the Michigan Deaf Association (MDA), we’re always looking for passionate individuals to help us further our mission of empowering the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing community. Whether you’re interested in event coordination, tech support, or working on important committees, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities available.
We’re currently seeking volunteers for the following organization roles:
- Webmaster: Update and maintain our website regularly, ensuring content is current and engaging.
- Regional Representatives: Host local events and collect feedback from members to help shape MDA’s strategic direction and activities.
- Parliamentarian: Assist with by-laws revisions and ensure that board meetings run smoothly and in accordance with established procedures.
Volunteer Opportunties on Committees:
- 2025 MDA Conference Committee (multiple opportunities, membership is not required to volunteer)
- Planning Team Support (long-term commitment from now until November 2025):
- ASL Festival Committee (3 volunteers): Help us coordinate exhibitors, entertainment, and family-friendly activities for all guests.
- Workshop Committee (2 volunteers): Assist in selecting workshop topics, recruiting presenters, and organizing presentation materials and sessions.
- Accessibility Coordinator (1 volunteer): Coordinate ASL interpreters, DeafBlind interpreters, SSPs, and CART services to ensure accessibility for all attendees.
- “Day of” Team Support (short-term service in November 2025)
- Registration (3 volunteers): Assist with checking in attendees and managing event registrations.
- Event Support (6 volunteers): Help with welcoming guests and directing them to different spaces and activities at the venue.
- Tech Crew (4 volunteers): Provide technical support during the event, assisting with live streaming and taking photos, and other tech needs.
- Planning Team Support (long-term commitment from now until November 2025):
- Election Committee (3 members): Help oversee MDA elections and ensure a fair and smooth voting process (must be active MDA member to join).
- By-Laws Committee (3 members): Support MDA’s by-laws review and any necessary updates (must be active MDA member to join).
How You Can Help: Volunteering with MDA is a great opportunity to give back to the community, develop new skills, and connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about advocacy and accessibility. You can choose from a variety of roles, whether you have a few hours to spare or want to get involved long-term.
